Question...I just purchased a LS170 and the parking brake doesn't hold. Anyone know how to adjust it so it holds? I checked the owners manual but. I have a New Holland LS 160 skid steer. The parking brake no longer holds the machine back, I am assuming it simply needs adjustment. Always do the following before lubricating, maintaining, or servicing the machine. 1. Disengage all drives. 2. Engage parking brake. 3. Lower all attachments to the ground, or raise and engage . I don't know what a new rod would run you, but they are pretty simple to make, i have done it before. Those nuts sure can get well stuck. I had a heck of a time removing them .

The parking brake on my 2005 LS170 (730 hours) completely failed the other day. The local NH dealer, who deals mainly with tractor repairs and only occasionally construction equipment, gave me a quote of 00-1400 for the brake repair. Admittedly, they've never done one before. Does this. I have an LX665 park brake that has me stumped. Adjusted the arm and brake didnt hold. Assumed brake pad was worn down. Pulled side cover off and removed brake pad. Pad wasnt worn more than 1/32 down over stock thickness. Found a washer that was about 3/32 thick to go behind pad and try to space it out. Assembled brake and it still doesnt function.
That brake system was not the best they are spring-loaded and hydraulicly released I used a hand pump to release /extend the cylinder rod so you could get the brake lever off the shaft and they are backwards from the old hand brake to have to pull up on the lever to apply the brake puck and I always adjusted them so that about 1 1 1/4 of the . I've searched the forums and cant really find a fix for this problem. Maybe a symptom: With the Brake down (off) and with both sticks fully forward, the left side just slightly tries to outrun the right side.
once new rod on. remove bolt from cam put back on so it doesnt drop into case. take a whoreheel and apply upward pressure (use a cheater too) have a helper strike bolt ,i use a old rod about 10 inches and a hammer.this should pop it off.rotate cam countter clock till bottom back off a smidge.put lever back on and will have plenty of adjustment. note you can drive thru . 3. Turn each splined shaft to engage the brake puck to the brake disc. Note: The RH caliper has a normal right-hand thread while the LH caliper has a left-hand thread. 4. Re-install the lever to each splined shaft of the caliper such that the caliper is fully engage to the brake disc (brake on) when the lever is in the horizontal position. So I figured I would take another look at my 743 to make heads or tails out of what is giving me trouble with my wheel movement. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to rebuild the drive motors and pump but I want to eliminate the possibility that the parking brake is stuck partially engaged.
