The motor runs great, carriage and bucket cylinders operate just fine. The issue I discovered after driving it awhile is in the steering. It drives "straight" forward and reverse just fine, but any degree of turning must be done gingerly.
I a hoping that someone will give me a secret to adjusting the linkage so that both of the drive arms on my case 1840 skid steer will have the same speed, feel, etc. One of them goes easy and fast so that side tries to go faster than the other.
It's possible the piston is sticking in it's bore, thus creating jerky controls - usually when this happens the bore is scored by foreign material - so more work is required to actually fix the real problem, the source of the foreign material.
I am trying to fix our skid steer. It is a newer 1840 uni-loader . The problem is- when the motor is running the machine wants to turn and there is no control or no finding neutral. If belts are tight, you really need to test charge pressure (150psi min) or at least measure flow at the case drain of the drive motors when under load. Does the park brake work? Do you have the ability & tools to check hyd pressures? May be a good idea to inspect the hyd. filter for metal debris. At the bottom of your control stick will be four bolts loosen those and adjust to compensate for the over-steer. Just make sure there is no creep in the drive train at idle as others have said.

The skid steer starting problem is one of the frustrating ones. Possible causes include a clogged fuel system, incorrect voltage in the battery, and loose connections. Also, if the fluid level is poor, your Case 1840 skid steer will not start.
