If you do buy a T-300 make sure you get a highflow and the newer K series as it has a 37gpm at 3300 psi. If you don't have highflow I think you would be wasting your time with a forestry mower. Also don't go smaller than the T-300. The mower is heavy and you need the weight of the machine to handle the mower. I have a Cat 287 xps with 4' mulching head on rent. I have a bunch of clearing work in front of me and not pleased with the Cat product and need some advice before purchasing my own machine. Things I am looking for: A nice finished product (need . Ok this was a question about skid steer and forestry head, not farm tractor and rotary mower. The comment about 60 acres not being piddling demonstrates the difference between forestry and tree service. 60 acres is just scratching the surface in .
my buddy mike. he owns mac machinery. they specialize in skid steer attachments and whatnot. he has a 5 foot wide brush hog type mower. brand new. made by blue diamond.. i have not demo'd it yet. but it looks rugged as they can come lol..factory specs says it will take a 6" thick tree. and there designed to run on a low flow high torq system.. that might be the . I have 12-16.5 solid tires on the skid steer. This makes the skid steer 68 inches wide. It's 63 inches wide with the stock 10-16.5 tires. I'd prefer a mower 66 inches wide, but my options are 60 and 72. While I'd prefer a track type skid steer for this application, I .
The fastest way to clear land with a skid steer mulcher with larger trees mixed into the bunch would be to go and mow as much of the small stuff bypassing the larger. Then use a tree sheer to knock them over limb them and haul the big wood out. Come back with the mower and chew and groom whats left. skidsteer i have a mustang which is the same machine. 1500 trouble free hours on original tracks. bigger and stronger than the others cat ,bobcat ect. rides rougher than a cat and wont climb as quite as good. the cats are only getting 500 hours on tracks.I heard the bobcat was good machine and tracks are cheaper but i dont know for sure. It seems to me (with my limited knowledge of heavy equipment) that a skid-steer or dedicated forestry mower could mow more acres. I do need to be able to move the equipment around. Most of the skid-steers and dedicated mowers are around six-feet wide. Also, there are a large number of people building roads and such in my area. Consider a bush hog mower on the back of a tractor. A good heavy duty mower has no problems with blackberries and small locust trees. You might need to get schooled up on tractor tire repairs if you are out with the locust trees. In some cases, a really heavy duty brush mower mounted on a high-flow tracked skid steer will do wonders.
A wheel loader is the best for heighth, but the skid steer has it all over the wheel loader (CAT 910 in my case) for speed. I put 5' forks on my skid steer or CTL (Compact Track Loader) and it will walk all over in deep mud with a full load of hardwood logs. I would not get any other brand or make other than the aforementioned.
